Acupuncture at Essence of Juji

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body, known as acupuncture points. These points are located along pathways called meridians, through which qì flows. Diagnostic methods like pulse and tongue diagnosis and (meridian) palpation are tools used to be able to understand the state of your body’s internal balance and overall health, and thus provide deep insights that guide the selection of the most appropriate and effective treatment strategies. Acupuncture is a beautiful way to support your entire system with whatever is needed to regulate the flow of qì and support the body to restore balance and harmony within.

The Historical and Cultural Roots of Chinese Medicine
Chinese medicine dates back thousands of years and is deeply rooted in the philosophy of harmony and balance. According to Chinese medicine, optimal health is not the absence of pathology, but active process of refining body essences and cultivating vital forces, thus maximizing physiological function. Central to this system is the concept of "Qi" / “qì” “氣” (pronounced "chee"), the vital life force that flows through the body along pathways called meridians. When is balanced and flows freely, the body is healthy; when it is blocked or deficient, disease can occur. Acupuncture is one of the most well-known modalities within Chinese medicine, alongside herbal medicine, cupping, moxibustion, and dietary therapy. It has been used for centuries to treat a wide array of conditions, from pain and digestive disorders to emotional imbalances and respiratory issues. The practice was first documented in one of the classics/ancient medical texts, the "Huangdi Neijing" (黄帝内经) (The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine), which outlines the principles of acupuncture, meridians, and the relationship between the human body and the natural world.

The Medical Perspective on Acupuncture
In recent years, acupuncture has gained recognition in the Western medical community as a complementary therapy. Research has shown that acupuncture can effectively stimulate the nervous system, enhance circulation, and promote the release of endorphins—the body’s natural painkillers. This helps explain why acupuncture is often recommended for conditions like chronic pain, migraines, and stress-related disorders.
